For 36 years residents of Woodbine, Iowa were scared and afraid to come forward. In 2024 Crime Stoppers created a Facebook group dedicated to getting tips and getting people to come forward. Several people did and the information that was received was sent to DCI (Department of Criminal Investigation) Crime Stoppers played a small role in trying to get this case some closure but we are truly grateful for everyone that came forward rather it be through us or directly to DCI and the Iowa Attorney General's Cold Case Unit
Update Monday, March 10, 2025
Robert Allen Davis is charged with first-degree murder in the 1989 disappearance of Barbara Lenz.
His arrest comes nearly 36 years after Lenz went missing in the western Iowa town of Woodbine. The Iowa Attorney General's Cold Case Unit announced Davis' arrest Tuesday after months of investigation.
A criminal complaint says Davis and Lenz were in a relationship at the time, and Davis was the last person to see Lenz before she disappeared. The complaint details several incidents of violence, including times when Davis strangled Lenz to the point of unconsciousness. Lenz sought medical treatment for her injuries on multiple occasions.
Davis, 61, was living in Council Bluffs at the time of his arrest. He was taken into custody during a traffic stop. Davis is currently in the Harrison County jail on a $3 million bond. Lenz's body has never been discovered.
